North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition is a proud participant in the National Effort to Increase breastfeeding-friendliness in the workplace. The effort is sponsored by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (US DHHS), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), with additional support from the US DHHS Office of Women’s Health. Each year, states compete to participate in a Train the Trainer Event, and are then given $10,000 to implement the Business Case for Breastfeeding in their communities. North Carolina is one of ten states to participate in 2009-2010. By participating, NCBC hopes to “increase breastfeeding exclusivity and duration rates among employed breastfeeding women” by: - increased collaboration between NCBC, community Healthy Start Programs, and others.
