The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health has initiated an exciting new program to support breastfeeding families! The North Carolina Maternity Center Breastfeeding-Friendly Designation (NCMCBFD) recognizes North Carolina hospitals and birthing centers that adopt policies and practices from the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, supporting the initiation, continuation and exclusivity of breastfeeding.NCMCBFD is endorsed by the North Carolina Hospital Association and the North Carolina Child Fatality Task Force.
Two members of NCBC serve on the Review Committee.Maternity Centers will be awarded for each two steps of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding that are implemented. Five stars will indicate full attainment of the Breastfeeding-Friendly designation. The Division of Public Health is proud to recognize the efforts of maternity centers as they work across the continuum to becoming Breastfeeding-Friendly. The designation is completely voluntary, and there is no cost for applying.Help spread the word about this valuable program:
