In addition to bringing national programs to our state, The North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition has developed a number of statewide initiatives to promote, support and protect breastfeeding in North Carolina.

The Business Case for Breastfeeding is a national program sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services. Through a grant received in August 2009 NCBC has established programs to recognize Breastfeeding Friendly Workplaces and Breastfeeding Friendly Businesses.
Ban the Bags / Golden Bow Award: The NCBC “Ban the Bags” efforts are part of a national campaign to stop formula companies from marketing in maternity hospitals. Formula sales campaigns, including formula discharge bags, undermine mothers who choose to breastfeed. Once a hospital has eliminated the use of formula discharge bags, NCBC recognizes their efforts by awarding them with the Golden Bow Award.
Mother-Baby Clinic Award: North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition is proud to present the Mother-Baby-Friendly Clinic Awards Program. Awardees will represent the best our state has to offer in terms of support for the breastfeeding family. Members of our communities can look to NCBC’s list of awardees to know to whom they can turn for evidence-based, high-quality breastfeeding support.
IBCLC Advocacy: The North Carolina Lactation Consultant Association (NCLCA) is a committee of NCBC working toward defining the role of the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant through professional advocacy of IBCLCs in North Carolina. NCLCA is the NC state affiliate of the US Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA).
Donor Human Milk: NCBC is working to increase awareness, acceptance, and credibility of donor milk banking among parents, government officials, and health care providers.
